India and Morocco seek deeper economic partnership through joint ventures

Rabat: India and Morocco are seeking to broaden their economic relationship beyond traditional trade, with officials and business leaders from both countries exploring new opportunities in investment, manufacturing, technology and strategic industries.

The discussions were held at the Indian Embassy in Rabat during India’s Commerce and Industry Minister’s visit for the India-Morocco Joint Commission Meeting, which reviewed bilateral economic ties and identified areas for expanded cooperation.

A delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) met Moroccan business representatives to explore potential joint ventures in manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, green hydrogen, defence and infrastructure.

CII representative Mohan Puri said bilateral trade has already crossed $4 billion, but stressed that the relationship should move beyond the exchange of goods toward deeper industrial cooperation.

He highlighted Morocco’s strategic position as a gateway to African markets and said Indian companies could contribute established technologies and expertise in renewable energy and green hydrogen, both in Morocco and potentially across Africa.

Colin Nebhwani, president of the Morocco-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the objective was to build on decades of positive relations and create greater opportunities for businesses in both countries.

“India and Morocco have maintained strong ties for many years,” Nebhwani said, emphasizing the need to take bilateral economic relations to a higher level through joint ventures and stronger corporate partnerships.

The talks reflect a growing push by both countries to develop a more integrated economic partnership, particularly in emerging sectors such as clean energy, technology, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.

With the private sector expected to play a central role, India and Morocco are increasingly looking to transform their established trade relationship into a broader platform for investment, technology transfer and joint industrial projects across Africa.
