Traditional horse show highlights Omani heritage at Al-Ashkhara forum 2026

AL-ASHKHARA: A traditional horse show was held in Al-Ashkhara district of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate as part of the “Al-Ashkhara Atmosphere 2026” forum, drawing wide participation from horse owners and riders from several governorates across Oman, alongside visitors and tourists from abroad.

The event aimed to showcase Omani heritage in a living form while providing horsemen and traditional groups with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and cultural practices before the public.

Organisers said such heritage events contribute to preserving Oman’s traditions while enriching the visitor experience, stimulating local economic activity and supporting the development of tourism infrastructure in the region.

Organised by the Ajwaa Al-Ashkhara Forum Committee in cooperation with the Al-Asayel Equestrian Club, the event featured more than 100 horses and riders from Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and other wilayats in South Al Sharqiyah, as well as participants from North Al Sharqiyah.

The programme showcased a variety of equestrian skills, including horse riding, handling, racing, taming, tent pegging and other horsemanship displays.

Children and young riders also took part in the demonstrations, providing an opportunity for younger generations to engage with traditional equestrian practices and helping ensure that these skills are passed down through generations.

The event also featured traditional Omani arts, including Al-Razha, Al-Bar’a, Al-Azi and maritime arts, creating a cultural showcase combining horsemanship with Oman’s rich artistic heritage.

The programme attracted a large audience, with spectators particularly welcoming the displays of horsemanship and athletic skills presented during the Al-Ardha race.
