Total population of Oman exceeds 5.3 million

Muscat: The total population of the Sultanate of Oman reached approximately 5,398,645 by the end of June 2026, reflecting a growth of 1.7 percent compared to the end of June 2025, when it stood at 5,306,976.

Data from the monthly statistical bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information indicated that the number of Omanis reached 3,063,949 by the end of June 2026, representing 56.75 percent of the total population of the Sultanate of Oman, while the number of expatriates reached 2,334,696, representing 43.25 percent.

At the governorate level, Muscat Governorate had the largest population, with a total of 1,542,619, representing 28.6 percent of the total population of the Sultanate of Oman.

 North Al Batinah Governorate came in second place with a population of 947,147, representing 17.5 percent of the total population, followed by South Al Batinah Governorate with 590,160 inhabitants, or 10.9 percent.

Al Dakhiliyah Governorate ranked fourth with a population of 575,096, or 10.7 percent of the total population, followed by Dhofar Governorate in fifth place with 536,302 inhabitants, or 9.9 percent.

South Al Sharqiyah Governorate had a population of 378,335, or 7 percent, followed by North Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 323,473 inhabitants, or 6 percent, and then Al Dhahirah Governorate with 249,095 inhabitants, or 4.6 percent.

 The population of Al Buraimi Governorate reached 135,797 people, representing 2.5 percent, while the population of Al Wusta Governorate reached 64,815 people, representing 1.2 percent, and Musandam Governorate recorded 55,806 people, representing 1 percent of the total population of the Sultanate of Oman.
