Consumer Protection Authority seizes illicit tobacco products in North Al Sharqiyah

Muscat: Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority has seized quantities of illicit cigarettes and chewing tobacco during a joint inspection campaign in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate aimed at tackling illegal street vending and regulatory violations.

The operation was carried out by the Consumer Protection Department in North Al Sharqiyah, represented by the Sinaw Office, in cooperation with several government entities as part of coordinated regulatory efforts targeting unlicensed vendors and violations involving expatriate workers.

During the campaign, inspection teams confiscated 34 packets of cigarettes, 118 bags of chewing tobacco, and 11 packs of gypsum material, all classified as prohibited goods.

The authority stated that the campaign resulted in the seizure and withdrawal of the banned products from the market, while the competent authorities initiated the necessary legal procedures against the violators.

The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening market oversight through joint enforcement campaigns aimed at protecting consumers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and preventing the circulation of prohibited products across the Sultanate.
