Muscat: Passengers’ bags left behind due to operational reasons will be sent as soon as possible, Oman Air said.
Passengers from Muscat who landed at Calicut International Airport in Kerala on Monday claimed that they have not received their bags.
“We didn’t receive our bags. While checked with airport authorities and Oman Air officials, they said that there is a delay in baggage arrival and we will have to come to airport again after one day to collect our bags,” Sreeram MV, a passenger on Muscat-Calicut Oman Air flight said.
“We were not informed about the delay in bags arrival. We waited for more than one hour and as we didn’t see our bags, we enquired and found that there is a delay,” Sreeram told Times of Oman over phone from Calicut.
“The bags arriving on Monday were of Saturday and Sunday passengers,” Sreeram said adding that he collected his bag today (Tuesday).
According to Sreeram, around 70 passengers of Monday’s flight have got their bags, while the rest are waiting.
In a tweet on Monday night, Oman Air said that some bags are left behind due to operational reasons and they are trying to send left items behind as soon as possible.
Due to Eid Al Adha and Onam (Indian harvest festival) holidays, almost all airlines are fully booked with passengers flying to holiday destinations and home country.
This Eid Al Adha holiday coinciding with Onam celebrations has given an effective nine-day holiday for Omanis and expats in the Sultanate.
This is the first time in recent years that people have been given a longer holiday with a chance to relax, re-energise and enjoy the festive occasion with family and friends.
Travel agents have confirmed that each and every flight flying out of Oman are fully booked.
Raji Demonte, general manager at universal travels, said that there is a rush due to holidays.
“Majority of the people in Oman are either flying to holiday destinations or to their home country to due to the nine-day holiday. This rush might have led to travel hassles like bags’ delay and all,” Raji added.
