Electricity tariffs reduced for residential use during summer

Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has announced the reduction on electricity tariffs for residential use for a single basic account during the summer of 2026, spanning the period from May to August.

The Authority has further directed licenced companies to refrain from disconnecting electricity services during this period and to offer flexible payment plans for subscribers with outstanding financial arrears, enabling them to settle due amounts through accessible installment mechanisms.

These decisions have been made to mitigate the impact of increased consumption resulting from high temperatures during these months.

Under the approved mechanism, licensed companies will apply a 15 percent reduction during the month of May for the consumption bracket of 0–4,000 kWh, a 10 percent reduction for the 4,001–6,000 kWh bracket, and a 5 percent reduction for consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh.

The reduction rates will increase during the months of June, July, and August to reach 20 percent for the 0–4,000 kWh bracket, 15 percent for the 4,001–6,000 kWh bracket, and 10 percent for consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh.

The Authority emphasied that it has instructed licensed companies to strictly adhere to these procedures to ensure regular billing and the accurate calculation of consumption.
