Environment Authority warns against unverified air quality reports on social media

Muscat: The Environment Authority has issued a clarification regarding air quality indicators circulating on social media, warning that some data shared through unofficial sources may be inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement, the authority reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in publishing environmental data, noting that official air quality information is made available directly through the approved “Naqi” platform, which is based on data collected from certified monitoring stations operating around the clock.

The authority explained that certain unofficial applications may rely on estimated or unverified data, which can lead to inaccurate readings and potentially cause unnecessary public concern.

It urged the public to verify information before sharing and to rely on official sources for accurate and reliable environmental data.
