Muscat: Turkey will secure its borders and fight terrorism which has plagued the country’s security in the recent times, Uğur Doğan, Ambassador of Turkey to Oman said at the 94th Victory Day celebrations of his country, held on Wednesday. “Turkey is determined to take all necessary steps within both its boundaries as well as the neighbouring countries where the terrorist organisations are active in order to ensure the security of its citizens, without discriminating among the terrorist organisations,” Doğan said while reading a statement from Recep Tayyip Erdogan, president of Turkey.
He also thanked the efforts of the Sultanate and recognised Oman as a friendly country, “I am honoured and privileged to welcome you all to the celebration of our 30th August Victory Day, in this friendly country of the Sultanate of Oman with which we are bound with strong ties of centuries old relationship of fraternity and cooperation.
“I would like to recognise and praise the valuable contributions of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in this regard.”
Expresses solidarity
Doğan further went onto speak about the troubled times in Turkey and thanked Oman and other countries which expressed solidarity with the nation.
“Our region and indeed our country have been going through extraordinary and turbulent times. Following the heinous coup attempt on 15 July, perpetrated by the elements of the Fetullahist Terrorist Organisation-FETÖ which posed a grave threat to our country’s very existence.
Friends, allies
“Statements and messages of support and solidarity by our friends and allies, which so far surpassed 120 nations including Oman, were gratefully welcomed by Turkey.
“The continuation of the expression of solidarity, support and cooperation as well as visits by high level dignitaries to our country is more beneficial and necessary than usual not only for Turkey’s stability and security but by inference also for the countries of our region and beyond,” he further said
Held at the Ambassador’s official residence, the event saw the presence of the Turkish military attaché and other embassy officials in Oman.
