Muscat: The 13th edition of the Muscat Marathon launched this week with a spectacular turnout, as 15,000 runners from across the globe gathered in the Sultanate’s capital. The two-day event served as both a high-level sporting competition and a vibrant community festival, highlighting Oman’s growing reputation for international diversity and its capacity to host world-class athletic events.
In a move to refresh the event’s atmosphere and diversify host locations, this year’s marathon was staged at Al Khuwair Square. The new venue offered a dynamic, integrated space that significantly enhanced the experience for both participants and spectators. The vibrant setting not only improved audience engagement but also provided a professional backdrop that underscored the logistical success of this year’s races.
The marathon featured a wide range of categories designed to include everyone from elite professional athletes and seasoned amateurs to families and first-time runners. Participants competed in the full marathon, half marathon, 10km, and 5km races, alongside a dedicated "fun run" and various children’s events.
This prestigious event continues to hold significant weight on the international circuit. Recognised in 2018 by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) as one of the premier sporting events in the region, the Muscat Marathon remains certified by World Athletics, ensuring its status as a top-tier destination for the global running community.
