Supreme Judiciary Council organises international conference on mediation

Muscat: The Supreme Judiciary Council today organized an international conference in Muscat titled: "Mediation: The Future of Dispute Resolution".

The conference was held under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council, with the participation of international experts, mediators, and arbitrators from various countries around the world.

The conference highlighted the growing role of mediation in achieving swift justice and reducing the burden on courts.

The organization of the conference comes within the framework of the Supreme Judiciary Council's directives to enhance the efficiency of the justice system and develop alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods to resolve disputes. This supports the business and investment environment and reinforces the confidence in the judicial system.

The conference activities witnessed the participation of a selection of prominent international experts, including officials, representatives, judges, and arbitrators from the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the OIC Arbitration Centre (OICAC), the Abu Dhabi Global Market Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts, and the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution, alongside a number of academics, mediators, and arbitrators from the Middle East, Europe, and North America.

The conference serves as a specialized dialogue platform bringing together all specialists to exchange international experiences and review best practices in developing the mediation system as a fundamental pillar in the development of the justice system. It aims to build national capacities capable of practicing mediation efficiently and professionally, in line with the Sultanate of Oman's direction toward consolidating the rule of law and achieving swift justice.
