
Muscat: The 3rd International Student Conference for Scholarly Research kicked off on Monday at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
The opening ceremony of the conference, titled “Towards Innovative Research Visions to Meet the Challenges of the Future”, was held under the auspices of HH Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al Said, SQU Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation.
The two-day conference covers various, including the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of research, green environment technologies, education in the age of the industrial revolution and the significance of research to community development.
The conference seeks to link university studies with scholarly research and social needs, propagate a culture of research and innovation in the university environment, highlight students’ research efforts and provide a platform for students to present their research results.
The conference also aims to promote cooperation between academic and research institutions in GCC states, prepare students for future careers, foster a culture of publishing and encourage students to prepare research that is suitable for publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition, the conference links student research to the needs of society and the labour market and offers an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among students, researchers and faculty members.
The conference targets Omani students enrolled in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, Omanis studying abroad and students residing in GCC states.
During the first day of the conference, relevant statistics for the period from 2022 to 2025 were presented. The figures show that postgraduate students at Sultan Qaboos University were able to present about 3,000 research papers at 165 international conferences. SQU students were awarded 136 national and international scholarly research prizes during the same period, according to the statistics.
