Policies of marginalisation exacerbate tensions: Sayyid Badr

Manama: Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, stressed that true security is not built on policies of isolation, containment, or exclusion, but rather is based on inclusiveness and positive engagement among the countries of the region, noting that historical experiences have proven that policies of marginalisation have only led to exacerbating tensions and prolonging conflicts.

This came during Sayyid Badr's participation in the Manama Dialogue 2025 Forum, which is being hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), with broad participation from senior officials and experts in international security and political issues.

In his remarks, Sayyid Badr expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the International Institute for Strategic Studies for organising this event, which has become an important platform for exchanging views and promoting mutual understanding, stressing that regional stability can only be achieved through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding.

His Excellency explained that the Sultanate of Oman has long believed that the policy of isolating Iran was not a solution, and that involving it in the comprehensive regional security system contributes to consolidating stability and joint cooperation.

He emphasised that Iran has shown, at various stages, openness and readiness for constructive dialogue, and has demonstrated restraint in multiple incidents despite repeated attacks.

This confirms the importance of adopting a comprehensive diplomatic approach that includes all parties to address common challenges such as maritime security, combating smuggling, and climate change.

In this context, His Excellency pointed out that earlier this year, the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States had made tangible progress during five rounds of talks between the two sides. However, just days before the sixth round, which was almost decisive, Israel launched illegal military attacks against Iran.

He explained that Israel’s deliberate practices to prolong the tension had, in this case, resulted in the killing of hundreds of innocent Iranian civilians, noting that Iran nevertheless responded with remarkable restraint, just as it did when Israel bombed its consulate in Syria, wounded its ambassador in Lebanon, and assassinated a senior Palestinian negotiator in Tehran.

His Excellency stressed that such acts of sabotage constitute a serious violation of international law and clearly reveal that Israel – not Iran – is the main source of insecurity in the region.

His Excellency also stressed that exclusionary policies fuel extremism and instability, while comprehensive partnership contributes to creating an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and shared prosperity, calling for the establishment of a regional security framework that includes all countries, including Iran, Iraq and Yemen, to deal effectively with common challenges.

His Excellency the Foreign Minister concluded his remarks by emphasising that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to support inclusive dialogue as a strategic option for achieving security, peace and prosperity in the region, noting that dialogue alone is the way to build a more stable and developed future for its peoples.

The dialogue session was attended by Oman's Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Georgios Grapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and Luigi Di Maio, the European Union's envoy for Gulf affairs.
