Oman participates in world biosphere reserves conference in China

Hangzhou: Represented by the Environment Authority and Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday took part in sessions of the 5th World Congress on Man and Biosphere Reserves, which is being held in the city of Hangzhou, in the People’s Republic of China, until 25 September.

Participation in this global conference, which brings together thousands of experts from more than 150 countries, reflects the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to support international action to address environmental challenges, protect biodiversity and inspire prospects for a sustainable future.

At the conference's pavilions, Oman held an exhibition that showcased products and handicrafts from nature reserve residents. The pavilion saw a turn-out of 1,800 visitors in the first three days, during which more than 1,400 souvenirs were distributed to the guests.

Two new Omani reserves will be added to the UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves during the 37th meeting of the International Coordinating Council of the “Man and Biosphere Programme”. The meeting is scheduled to be held from 26 to 28 September 2025.
