Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Sunday received a telephone call from António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
The call dealt with a set of regional developments.
The UN Secretary-General expressed profound appreciation for the pivotal role played by His Majesty the Sultan and his government in advancing peace efforts, de-escalating tensions, and fostering stability in the region.
The Secretary-General commended Oman’s dedicated diplomacy, which contributed to restoring maritime navigation in the Red Sea and brokering a cessation of hostilities between the United States and Yemen’s authorities in Sana’a.
He also lauded the mediation efforts undertaken by Oman regarding the nuclear talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, expressing his strong support for these endeavors in pursuit of international security and peace.
On his turn, His Majesty the Sultan emphasised to the UN Secretary-General that Oman's role in this matter stems from its commitment to the welfare and peace of all nations, expressing his gratitude for the Secretary-General's efforts and the UN ongoing initiatives to foster global peace and harmony.
