Muscat : Doctors in the Sultanate of Oman have successfully performed the first heart transplant from a brain-dead person for an Omani patient suffering from heart failure.
The operation was performed by a comprehensive, multidisciplinary Omani medical team and took five hours.
His Excellency the Minister of Health affirmed in a media interview that this achievement represents a milestone in the journey of the healthcare sector in the Sultanate of Oman, as the heart transplant from a brain-dead donor was performed according to the highest medical and ethical standards, and in accordance with national laws and approved international recommendations in the field of organ donation.
"This achievement is not only the result of the efforts of a single medical team. it also reflects a comprehensive national vision that embodies wise leadership, the competence of national capabilities, and the spirit of humanitarian giving. Healthcare workers have also proven their readiness to perform medical duties with high levels of competence and responsibility."
