Curfew in Chile following widespread power outage

Santiago: The Government of Chile announced a curfew across more than ten regions following a widespread power outage.

This outage disrupted traffic, paralysed many businesses, and halted the Santiago metro service until further notice.

Mobile phone services were also disrupted in some parts of the country.

According to Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Response Service, the power outage affected a vast area stretching from Arica in the north to Los Lagos in the south, home to more than 90% of the country's total population of 20 million, making this outage the worst power failure in Chile's electrical grid in over a decade.

No explanation for the power outage was given so far.
