UTAS Academic Board Holds First Meeting of Current Year

Muscat: The Academic Board of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) today held its first meeting of the current academic year (2024/2025). The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour, Chairman of the UTAS Board.

The Board discussed a proposal on modern policies aimed to secure sensitive data and assets, besides setting guidelines and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. This reflects UTAS commitment to implement the best practices in information security and enhance cybersecurity.

A risk management policy endorsed by the UTAS Board at the meeting was aimed at maintaining institutional performance, upgrading the university’s ability to deal with potential challenges and raising awareness of university members about security measures.

The Board approved the formation of an Audit and Review Committee that will oversee the tasks of the Internal Audit Department with the prime aim of enhancing administrative governance and achieving greater transparency in financial, administrative and academic operations.

The meeting discussed measures for the admission of children of non-Omani university employees in accordance with specified criteria. This was aimed at providing appropriate educational opportunities and unifying related procedures, including issuing travel tickets and other measures to ensure equal educational opportunities.

Within reference to its decisions during a meeting held on 26 May 2024, the Board commended measures undertaken to implement procedures related to the Master’s programmes at the UTAS and it considered applying the same during the current academic year (2024-2025).

As many as 6,292 male and female students graduated at the UTAS in the current academic year.
