Agreement signed to set up OMR10mn poultry project

Muscat: Osool Poultry Company signed an agreement with Aviagen (Ross) company to establish a major poultry project codenamed “Jaddat” (mother hens), an investment worth OMR10 million. Aviagen will provide full technical support to Osool in setting up and running the project.

The establishment of the poultry project aims to enhance food security and achieve self-sufficiency by meeting the entire need for chickens in the Sultanate of Oman, and thus reduce imports.

The agreement was signed by Dr Hadi Mohsen Al Lawati, CEO of Osool Company, and Bulent Tanyildizi, Aviagen Business Manager for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The project, which constitutes an essential component of the poultry industry chain, enables the company to produce fertilised eggs, quality chicks and other poultry products.

By establishing this vital project, Osool Poultry Company also seeks to reduce the risks involved in poultry imports' potential of conveying disease pathogens to the Sultanate of Oman. The project also helps overcome common logistical problems.

Osool Poultry Company is currently operating its project with a production capacity of 150 million eggs, per annum, from fertilized eggs, mainly by importing one-day-old chicks from different countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources undertakes a pivotal role in consolidating the poultry industry in the Sultanate of Oman, notably by transferring and localizing global knowledge and expertise in the field of raising and developing poultry projects. The ministry also contributes to training Omani national cadres and empowering them to help enhance food security and self-sufficiency.

It is worth noting that the poultry project, “Jaddat”, requires careful monitoring to ensure the health of the mother hens and the quality of the eggs produced. The project paves the way for the establishment of private farms that will henceforth be equipped with the latest technologies for raising mother hens and producing hatching eggs.
