Board of Directors of Oman Golf Association hold meeting

Following their election at the General Assembly in April of this year the Board of Directors of the Oman Golf Association recently held their first meeting at the Oman Olympic Committee building in Muscat.

Under the Chairmanship of His Highness Azzan bin Qais Al Said, the Board consisting of Faiz bin Mohammed Riaz (Vice Chairman), Ahmed bin Faisal Al Jahdami (General Secretary), Nikhil Sampat (Treasurer), Ghalib Al Busaidi, Mubarak Hill, and Jumana Al Ghadaniya, thanked the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth headed by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said for his support of golf, and his confidence in their election as Board Members for the term 2024-2028.

The Chairman, His Highness Azzan bin Qais, pledged the continuation of the Association’s efforts to raise golf within the Sultanate to the highest levels and in doing so to align to the objectives laid out in Oman Vision 2040 with golf positively contributing to social and economic development.

The Vice Chairman, Faiz Mohammed Riaz, added the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy to reach the next stage, working with the Oman School Sports Federation with the aim to spread the game of golf in the Sultanate though Omani schools and in doing so to develop more players for the National Teams.

The Board acknowledged and celebrated the results of the current National Teams for this year to date, their recent Silver Medal in the inaugural Gulf Youth Games held in the United Arab Emirates under the supervision of the Oman Olympic Committee was highlighted along with the Under 18’s performance at the GCC Championships in Qatar earlier in the year. There was further discussion about the schedule for the remainder of the year which will include the Arab Championships for Men and Under 18’s, the Arab Championship for Under 16’s, Under 13’s and Ladies, and the GCC Championship for Under 16’s, Under 13’s, and Ladies which will be hosted in Oman towards the end of the year.

The Board praised the success of hosting the International Series Oman Asian Tour event, which was held at Al Mouj Golf for the second year in a row. The quality of the field of players, which included many of the games superstars, contributed to the extensive media coverage that the Sultanate received. Ensuring that the event returns in 2025 is a committed focus of the new Board as it plays a key role in domestic growth of the game and elite performance, as well as supporting the Sultanate’s wider objectives in regard to tourism and investment.
