Oman National Team players Ahmed Al Wahaibi and Azaan Al Rumhy have travelled to Japan to participate in the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship Academy held at Taiheyo Club. The goal of the week long Academy is to further enhance the abilities, skills and prepare the players for the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) that will be played at the same venue later in the year.
The players received their invitations from the AAC Executive Committee to participate in the Academy, and subsequently compete in the Championship, by virtue of their standings within the official World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
The AAC Executive Committee have assembled an experienced team of experts in coaching, sports science, fitness, and other areas to deliver sessions to the players. The team will also continue to monitor players following the conclusion of the Academy to track player progress with real time information and assistance to provide on-going support.
Created in 2009, the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship was established to develop elite amateur golf in the Asia Pacific region. The tournament, founded by Augusta National, the R&A, and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation, is contested annually by the top male amateurs from the 43 Asia Pacific Golf Confederation affiliated organisations.
The 15th AAC will be played at Taiheiyo Club, Japan from the 3rd to 6th October 2024. The 2024 champion will receive an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and automatically qualifies for The 153rd Open. The runner(s)-up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The Open. Over the AAC’s history, the championship has served as a springboard to some of the world’s top players, including Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time AAC winner and the 2021 Masters champion.
