ASMED Launches Electronic Information System to Advise SMEs

Muscat: Acting in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) today launched an electronic corporate information system that provides comprehensive data about companies and establishments, their locations and activities, as well as related population and economic activities.

The database system will highlight promising projects and opportunities at the level of sectors and governorates. It will enable small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop an entrepreneurial environment and establish an integrated electronic information system that is capable of providing up-to-date information to support SMEs, their fields of operation and the national goals of Oman Vision 2040.

The objective is to activate entrepreneurship and set it as one of the most important pillars of the national economy in Oman. The move will also facilitate decision making based on open data in economic and strategic sectors.

ASMED pointed out that the system, which will be available for users in two weeks, will maximise the use of open data and make it available to owners of SMEs who wish to launch their projects and develop innovative solutions to various challenges.

The overall aim is to build a digital economy based on a knowledge society, facilitate the sharing of information and reuse of information, besides transforming data into tools and applications that help in research and smart solutions.
