Muscat: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) is organising an annual event titled “Compliance and Environmental Legislation Forum”.
The two-day forum, which began today, aims to complement the Authority’s role in raising the level of compliance in special economic zones and free zones in a manner that reflects zones’ commitment to policies, laws, regulations and systems in force.
The first day of the forum highlighted the progress made in the zero-neutrality process in the Sultanate of Oman and the role of this goal in enabling sustainable growth. The organizers stressed the importance of adherence to occupational health and safety in the work environment and the need to apply the best practices in governance and compliance.
The participants discussed the national record of the “Hazardous Substance Incident Response Sector” affiliated to the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance.
Tomorrow, the forum’s programme will include visual presentations to exchange experiences in the field of environmental management in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm.
The programme will also include outlining the procedures that are applied by Madayn (the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates) in the field of investigating incidents in industrial cities, in addition to studying a model approach to environmental performance at Sohar Free Zone.
Besides consolidating awareness about legislations and policies, the forum seeks to leverage the points of strength shared by the zones and develop ways to improve related plans and address challenges.
The forum is attended by representatives of government departments and special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities that are supervised by Opaz.
